Please Avoid

Budapest is a great city full of friendly people. If you are lost, they will steer you to the right direction, talking loud and slowly – in Hungarian.

To make the most of your stay and to avoid disappointment, please keep the following suggestions in mind:

If not using a credit card, always try to pay in Forints (the Hungarian currency). While Euros can be convenient, you will almost surely end up on the wrong side of the exchange rates.

Please use registered taxis that belong to a company and have a branded logo on their doors. Some of the reputable companies are: City taxi, Radio taxi, Tele5 taxi, Taxi4…..
Let the drivers use the meters, as prearranged prices are almost always more, and you will have no receipt.

If in a restaurant or at the hotel, ask the staff to call you a taxi – a company of your choice. This way you can avoid flagging down non registered taxies.

As a rule of thumb -depending on traffic- a taxi ride within the city should not cost more than 3500 Forints.
At train stations, do not accept the offers of hawking drivers, just head to the exit and find a registered taxi.

If you like late night clubs, please check the drinks list before ordering as their prices can be more than exorbitant.
